Computers, Monitors are a main contributor to electronic waste (eWaste), which poses a costly disposal issue and liability because they contain various components that are toxic to the environment and may have confidential information stored on hard drives.

Several states and municipalities have enacted legislation to reduce the amount of eWaste that enters landfills and to minimize the impact of eWaste on the environment.
